What happens when a security is delisted?
In some situations, you may hold a security that’s been voluntarily or involuntarily delisted from an exchange – meaning it’s no longer available to trade or view on Stake platform.
Securities can be delisted for a few reasons, including:
The company ceasing operations or declaring bankruptcy
A corporate action, such as a takeover or merger
A transition to private ownership
Failure to meet listing requirements on an exchange
You can keep track of announcements from companies in your portfolio via the Stake app or by checking the ASX announcements page. After delisting, you can search for company records on delisted.com.au.
In some cases, depending on the circumstances and terms of the agreement, you may be entitled to a final distribution – representing a portion of value recovered from the delisting process.
If a security has already been delisted, it’s best to contact the share registry directly for advice on how to proceed.
