Does the U.S. withhold any tax?
The U.S. withholds tax on dividends paid to shareholders of U.S. securities. There is no tax withheld on the selling of shares.
Non-U.S. residents with a completed W-8BEN (or W9 for U.S. tax residents) tax form are subject to a 15% withholding tax on dividend payments; without a lodged tax form, that’s 30%.
When you sign up and fund your Stake Wall St account for the first time, we digitally complete the W-8BEN (or W9 if you’re a U.S. tax resident) on your behalf and cover the administrative fee (usually US$5).
